Vanhu Wamwe works with artisans in Zimbabwe and Ecuador to bring economic empowerment to women in marginalized communities through the creation of luxury handcrafted heirlooms. Their collections of macrame bags are an elevated and artful take on a casual handbag, handwoven by a community of macrame weavers utilizing traditional techniques. Each bag is a testament to how traditional craft can be reimagined in modern and original ways time and time again.

Through the making of their conceptual macrame bags and other accessories, Vanhu Wamwe, which means ‘One People’ in the Shona language, connects cultural history and modern innovation. Para-cord used in their macrame is made from 100% recycled plastic (PET) bottles.

While artisan weavers in Zimbabwe craft their macrame lines, other collections involve yarn and toquilla straw used by Ecuadorian makers.
