I’ve never been a hat person. They’re usually too big and swallow me up and make me self conscious. But slowly I’ve started to understand their brilliance. Beanies for the winter, I can no longer go without. Baseball caps when I have greasy hair or it’s drizzly out. What about summer hats? I’m finally falling in love. Big floppy sunhats and wide brimmed woven hats with ribbons to tie around? So chic. Linen bucket hats? As long as they’re not *too* reminiscent of my awkward adolescent years, I’m on board. I’m finally ready to have some fun in the sun, summer hats in tow! Here are my favorites with a focus on ethically made, sustainable hats in particular.
sustainably made summer hats for every style
LET’S START WITH BUCKET HATS… No shortage of sustainable options here:
The Floppy Wide Brim Bucket Hat by Esendy has adorable matching side ties and can I just say, ties are what makes a bucket hat go from, well, bucket, to CHIC. Peruse the rest of the photos here and tell me you don’t agree.
Love the dainty floral design on the Wide Brim Bucket Hat also by Esendy… Might need the dress to go with it!
Choose a style like this Pastel Organic Linen Summer Hat by Isole Linen Studio for a coordinating outfit.
What did I tell you about those ties? This Handmade Quilted Safflower & Turmeric Sun Bonnet by Margo New York is such an elevated take on a very chill style.
And for something more whimsical, may I present the Reversible Bucket Hat by Lost Pattern.
Zero Waste Store offers up a selection of Crochet Bucket Hats that are handmade and one of a kind. These are made in Ecuador.
Love a reversible design, like in this collection by Maaristore. And you can’t go wrong with linen, truly.
Floppy & wide brim
This Open Weave Wide Brim Ecuador Hat by Cuyana comes in four sizes and also has an adjustable interior band. The weave is so interesting!
In the mood for an oversized floppy sunhat? The Toni Hat (now sold out) by Selva Negra is the perfect summer shade of green. Bonus points if you pair with a linen set.
Oh, and speaking of oversized… The Solana Oversized Straw Hat by Brunna.Co is beyond!
Yaku Wide Brim Hat by Artesano is is their take on a classic boater hat, artisan crafted in Ecuador with 100% natural toquilla straw. It comes in candy pink with a tone-on-tone ribbon band to complete the look.
I also love Brunna’s orange color block Jute Straw Hat, which adds the perfect pop to a neutral summer outfit.
(More) woven hats
Killa Packable Hat from Artesano is soft enough to fold and pack in your bag. Absolutely begs to be paired with the matching tote, of course.
Mesmerized by the intricate detail of this artisan woven Wide Brim Summer Hat with rope by SandovalHatsMexico.
A colorful, woven take on the bucket design with this Pink and Orange Striped Raffia Hat by Chillax. Only one left!
